Visit the Musée de l’Homme from your 3-star hotel in Paris

Your hotel near the Grands Boulevards highly recommends the entirely renovated museum.

After a six-year renovation, the Musée de l’Homme opened once again on 17 October 2015. A must-visit part of any weekend stay in Paris.

The Musée de l’Homme is housed in the Palais de Chaillot, built to mark the Universal Exhibition in 1937. The simplest way to get there from your 3-star hotel in Paris is to take the metro at Bonne nouvelle (Line 8) as far as the Invalides and then change to RER C, getting off at the Champs de Mars Tour Eiffel.

The interior of the majestic Art Deco has been entirely refurbished: light-filled and spacious rooms, which blend wood and glass in a decor that’s both understated and exquisite. The museum is centred on the Galerie de l’Homme or ‘Gallery of Humanity’, which raises three big questions: who are we? Where do we come from? And where are we going ? This section of the museum takes us back to the Australopithecus, then homo erectus, Neanderthal man and Cro-Magnon man.

Top tips from your hotel near the Grands Boulevards

A number of highlights make the evolution section special:

  • An app enables you to see your own face, Neanderthal style. Just stand in front of the screen which captures an image of you and watch while it changes the morphology of your homo sapiens face.
  • One of the walls showcases the diversity of human languages – over 7,000 for the 7 billion people on Earth. To hear the extracts, pull on the tongues sticking out of the planisphere.
  • In the Gallery, you can also smell a prehistoric fire, visit a Mongolian yurt, admire the scale-model of an architectural dig, or hop on a Senegalese bus and enjoy the African scenery rolling by….

This journey across the globe and the ages is enough by itself to justify a weekend in Paris!
