Stay at the 3-star Hotel Le Royal and be right in the middle of the action at Nice Carnival
The 2017 Nice Carnival festivities will be taking place close to the 3-star Hotel Le Royal. Even in the cooler winter months, everyone loves the warm atmosphere of the Côte d’Azur and its many celebrations: the Lemon Festival in Menton, the Mimosa Festival in Mandelieu-la-Napoule and, above all, Nice Carnival, one of the biggest in the world.
Nice Carnival will be taking place in the capital of the Riviera from 11 to 26 February 2017. What better reason to book a room at our 3-star hotel in Nice and be right in the heart of the festivities?
The programme of festivities
For two weeks, Nice will be buzzing with life as the various festive events are held across the city: parades, processions, flower battles, and more.
This year’s Carnival King will be the ‘King of Energy’. Whatever the type of energy sources used by the festival organisers, one thing is guaranteed – the spectacle will be unforgettable.
What’s more, you can enjoy the lively, colourful parades in close proximity to your sea-view hotel.
Nice has set its sights high by proposing various events for this year’s Carnival:
The Place Masséna and its Pavillon will be the venue for the local Carnival parade of floats sparkling with thousands of lights. This year, we are expecting creations ranging in height from eight to sixteen metres, and with particularly striking appearances thanks to the international newspaper illustrators’ competition. The high point of the Carnival will be the closing parade on Sunday 26 February, which will end, as it traditionally does in Nice, with the burning of the king on a bonfire. The parades will take place on the Sundays 19 and 26 February, starting at 2.30 pm and 6 pm, respectively. And it will all be happening within walking distance of your 3-star Nice hotel.
The flower battles are a hallmark of Nice Carnival and will delight young and old alike. From atop the floats, extravagantly-dressed participants will be throwing flowers of all shapes, sizes and colours into the crowd. The costumes are created especially for the occasion and would not be out of place in a theatre production, while the 100,000 or so flowers thrown to crowds will undoubtedly embellish the homes of those who catch them. Unlike any other, anywhere else in the world, this is a spectacle that is absolutely unmissable. The Carnival will open on Saturday 11 February with a flower battle; others will follow on the Saturdays 18 and 25 February and Wednesdays 15 and 22 February.
Lastly, to make Nice sparkle in splendour even after dark, the Carnival parade of lights will shine through the darkness so that everyone can admire the floats. Scheduled for the Saturdays 11, 18 and 25 February, the parades of lights also afford an opportunity to explore the old town by moonlight.
