Ready for a weekend of Carnival festivities in Nice?

Carnaval de Nice édition 2016

Discover the programme for the forthcoming Nice Carnival, from 13 to 28 February 2016.

This is the flagship event on the Côte d’Azur!

Your hotel on the Promenade des Anglais has already given you a taste of some of the excitement in store for you at Nice Carnival; now it’s time to unveil the programme! And the theme for this year’s event is: The King of the Media, reflecting the attack on Charlie Hebdo and in tribute to the freedom of speech.

Consequently, the visual identity of the 2016 Carnival will depend upon the collaboration between press illustrators and artists.

What better reason to plan a weekend in Nice?

The unmissable moments

As happens every year, for two weeks the capital of the Côte d’Azur will be buzzing to the rhythm of the parades and flower battles. The floats that you will see on the Place Masséna will be especially large and well-decorated, standing between eight and sixteen metres tall.

The Hotel Le Royal, on the Promenade des Anglais, is perfectly situated for admiring the flower battles that bring a special charm to the seafront several times a week.

  • The festivities will get underway in style at 2.30 pm on Saturday 13 February, when the first flower battle will take place just steps from your charming hotel in Nice. This will be followed at 9 pm by the Carnival parade of lights (which will be repeated on the next two Saturdays, 20 and 27 February).
  • At 9 pm on Friday 19 February, it will be time for Lou Queernaval, France’s first gay Carnival parade.
  • The Socca Party will be taking place in the Albert 1er Garden on 21 February. Festivities begin at 11 am, followed by a parade at 2.30 pm.
  • On Friday 26 February, Nice’s great chefs will be cooking lunch for you at the Big Wheel Vira la Roda.

Get a ringside view from your charming Nice hotel.

The Carnival will come to a wonderful close on Sunday 28 February, when everybody plunges into the sea at Ruhl Plage at 11 am. This will be followed by the traditional closing festivities (the burning of the King on the bonfire and the fireworks over the Bay of Angels).
Once again, your hotel on the Promenade des Anglais will provide you with a ringside seat for the show, especially our sea-view rooms.

A visit to the official Nice Carnival website will help you organise your trip in the best way possible. Book your weekend in Nice and stay in a former palace alongside the Mediterranean. It will be simply unforgettable!
